Have you ever heard of Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)? That is how Bill Thorne starts a lot of his conversations nowadays.Bill is a Larimer County Libertarian political activist and currently a member of our Board of Directors. Bill also has PKD and has started a non-profit corporation dedicated to raising awareness of PKD. The corporation is appropriately called "End PKD Inc.". End PKD Inc. is also working for a cure for PKD. For those of you who haven't heard of PKD, it is the worlds number one genetic life threatening disease. More people have PKD than Down's Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Sickle Cell Anemia, and Hemophilia, combined. Someone is born with PKD every 66 minutes. Bill, pictured above at the 2007 Loveland Corn Roast Parade, working with state Senator Bob Bacon(D) and Representative Don Marostika(R) passed Senate Joint Resolution SJR07-041 designating September 9 through 16 as National Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Week in Colorado. Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 the Colorado Rockies will honor Bill Thorne in a pre-game ceremony at approximately 6:00pm at Coors Field. There are still a few tickets remaining in the PKD boosters section of seats for Wednesdays game. Contact Bill Thorne at endpkd@yahoo.com if you would like to attend the game. |
